Whiskybay
Joep Van Drunen writes to tell me that Whiskybay has reached 250 users.
What is Whiskybay? Whiskybay is a whisky-auction site - think "eBay" for whisky collectors.
Joep tells us about Whiskybay:
The intention of Whiskybay is to get whisky-enthusiasts together to sell and buy for reasonable prices. In Germany there is whiskyauction.com. A good, but expensive site - you also need a credit card to join.
Whiskyhammer is new, but far too expensive with a 10% fee. I believe that in the future it should be possible to still have a low fee and pay my costs for maintaining whiskybay.com.
I started Whiskybay because I found eBay too expensive and they have a lot of rules regarding alcohol - also there are no good categories for whisky.
Whiskybay has (almost) all whisky brands categorized: Highland, Lowland, Islay etc. The blends section contains over 200 brands!
There is no fees and you pay only 1% if you sell something. It is a private site, only run by me. I don’t make a living out of it and don’t intend to do. I want to try to pay my costs, but at the moment that is in no way possible.
Whiskybay is used by collectors, some small stores and whisky-enthusiasts. It is obviously not as busy as eBay, although there are some busy times. It is also summer now and then this kind of site is more quiet.
I currently have users are from Denmark, Germany, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium, USA, UK, Sweden, and Norway.
Thanks Joep.
I have never used any of the whisky auction sites, so I can't comment on any of them. But if you are going to participate in an auction - you might as well go with the one that costs the least, right?
Check out Whiskybay and let us all know what you think (through comments). Remember, there are some very strange laws in the US and Canada about importing liquor, so keep that in mind when making any overseas transaction.

I checked the site out, it's not very aesthetic but it does contain some interesting bottles ! There aren't alot of Islay whisky and there's no Coal Isla !!! But I might try out the Ardbeg Committee Resreve often heard about but never tasted !!!
