The future of the whisky community?

Ian Buxton is about to launch what could be the most ambitious whisky-focused portal ever.

I was asked to be a beta tester, and I can tell you first hand that the site brings together some of the best concepts from online communities: up-to-date news; "friends" and the ability to post messages to and about them; the ability to set up your own blog; and possibly the most interesting feature: Whiskipedia - a whisky focused "wiki".

You'll also be able to post video - sort of like You Tube for whisky...but a bit more adult.

Ian expects to launch at the end of the month...with whiskipedia following by Christmas.  That should give you plenty to do over the holidays.

What's it called? What's the address?

Look for the official announcement in a few days...

im on board for all geek focused wikis ever since the wookipedia(star wars wiki)

Sounds very interesting. Count me in :-)

All will be revealed very shortly. Kevin's readers will be amongst the first - probably the very first - to know.
As he says: watch this space....

Sounds like a great idea.

Can't wait for launch, keep us posted Kevin.

Like this idea a lot. I would definitely be on board with building a community like this. It is really needed(Why not widen it to all alcohol eventually because there is a desperate need for a wider community and bringing together of efforts too?) The Whiskipedia idea seems great too though one question does initially spring to mind: if this is about widening and deepening whisky knowledge, why not improve Wikipedia, with its massive existing reach in the wider internet community and well developed conventions and policies - but I would love for that to succeed too (of course, if this is going to be open source, its content could be used to enrich Wikipedia anyway)

I found one called http://www.allmalts.com. Looks good but has been in Beta mode for a few months.

Hi - Saw this posting about Ian's site (nicely done), and since there clearly is an interest, thought I would tell everyone about another great community for people who love scotch: ForScotchLovers.com.

Member benefits include insider access to rare whiskies; curated whisky reviews from some whisky's top thought-leaders; and Drinking Buddies, a global community of whisky lovers at your fingertips. And then there's Ask BoozeLady... ;-)

Please come by and check us out.
